Pretaillage

This is an activity undertaken before pruning. The objective is to cut off as much of the year's vine growth as possible whilst leaving enough to make the basis of next year's growth. The activity is undertaken with another very specific machine on the side (or front) of a tractor. It straddles the rows and, running along each row, chews up the old wood.

We don't have a machine for this, we hire someone to do this for us each year.
